The Student Health Center (SHC) offers Solia and Cesia as oral contraceptive pill options. One pack of oral contraceptives (birth control pills) is $15, and a three-pack of birth control pills is $40. Students must have a current pap smear on file at the student health center before they are eligible to utilize this service; however, the pap smear does not have to be performed by a SHC provider. Records of a current pap smear from a student's home provider may be faxed to the student health center at (660) 785-4011. Students are then required to make an appointment with a SHC provider for a review of their records and to get a prescription for contraception. The SHC is not a pharmacy and cannot accept prescriptions from your physician or health care provider. Call the Student Health Center at 785-4182 for more information or to make an appointment.
We would like to share some exciting changes to the birth control program at the Student Health Center. These changes in our program are the direct result of student requests for shorter waiting times on pill pickup days and more confidentiality during birth control purchases. Birth control is now available for purchase online at the Purchase Birth Control Online page. Purchases can be made at your convenience through this site (up to seven packs at a time), and then you MUST pick up your birth control purchase during the pill pickup days posted on the Student Health Center’s website on the Pill Pickup Days page. (The Health Center can only dispense birth control when the physician is on the premises).
Birth control purchases are only accepted online. The birth control program at the Student Health Center has grown exponentially, and moving the program online is the only way the Student Health Center can continue selling birth control. All orders must be placed at least 48 hours before the posted pill pickup day you plan to pick up birth control. Any purchases made after the 48-hour window will not be ready for pickup that week. If you do not make your purchase online following the above guidelines, and are going to run out of pills before the next pill pickup day, you may come to the Student Health Center at your convenience and request a written prescription for one pack of birth control which you may then fill at a local pharmacy.
When you make your purchase online, you will not have to wait through the regular line at the front desk. You will pay for your birth control online by debit or credit card, by charging to your Truman Student ID, or by debiting your checking account. When you arrive at the Student Health Center, you will be directed to a separate area designated for online purchased supplies. You will show the staff member your student ID (you must show a photo ID to pick up your pills), be handed your purchase, and sign your name. A friend may pick up your birth control for you if they have a signed note from you when they request to pick up your purchase.
We hope you enjoy the convenience of the new online birth control program.
