Date rape drugs are drugs that can be slipped into a drink or used to replace other drugs that a person may be using.  These drugs change the way the body works.  Some common date rape drugs are Rohypnol, GHB, and Ketamine.  Date rape drugs are colorless, odorless, and have almost no taste.  They are difficult to detect when added to a drink. 

Date rape drugs slow down the brain and the nervous system, making it difficult for a person to think, move, or speak.  Under the influence of date rape drugs, people may experience the following:  Lowered inhibitions, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, memory loss, and decreased blood pressure/heart rate/breathing. 

Effects from date rape drugs vary, and alcohol makes the effects even worse. Effects can begin within  minutes and can last for more than 12 hours, depending on the drug.  Date rape drugs can cause coma and death.  Date rape drugs are illegal to use, buy, or sell. 

The symptoms of drug poisoning may include feeling more intoxicated than you should feel, difficulty remembering things you have said or done recently, loss of coordination/dizziness/blackouts, nausea/vomiting, confusion, chilling/sweating, and trouble moving/speaking.  If you are feeling ill or experiencing any of these symptoms, get help immediately from someone you trust. Call 911 if you think that you or someone you know may have been given a date rape drug.  Stay with the person until help arrives.
