Key Precautions to Prevent Getting the H1N1 Flu Virus (Swine Flu)
Ø Wash your hands with soap and water or clean them with an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
Ø Don’t touch your face unless your hands are clean.
Ø Don’t share food or beverages.
Ø Stay away from other people who are sick.
If you get sick…
Ø Stay home if you have a fever, and don’t return to class until your fever has been gone for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
Ø Cough or sneeze into your elbow, or cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if available.
Ø Dispose of tissues in the nearest trash receptacle.
Ø Wash your hands after any contact with respiratory and/or nasal secretions.
Items you should stock in your medicine cabinet…
Ø A thermometer
Ø A fever reducer such as Tylenol or Ibuprofin
Ø Over-the-counter cough drops
Ø Throat lozenges
Ø Salt for warm salt water gargles
